Antic are re-opening the foyer of the EMD/Granada on 10th December as a ‘pop-up pub’. This will be the first time a part of the building has re-opened to the public since the cinema closed in January 2003. More info here.
Despite initially declaring they aimed to submit their planning application to Waltham Forest Council by the end of April, Antic have yet to do so. Soho Theatre remains committed to working with Antic and providing an entertainment and educational programme that celebrates the heritage of this building and exploits its potential for the benefit of the Walthamstow area and far beyond.
Once a planning application or planning details are finally made public, we will inform supporters and make suggestions on how to respond.
While it is exciting that the foyer is re-opening, the overall restoration and operation of the building remains unknown. Let’s hope Antic reward all who have fought to save this building by giving it the best future it can – with film and live entertainment use at its very heart. Soho Theatre can help do just that, and bring Sam Simmons – winner of this years prestigious Foster’s Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Festival – to the stage of this amazing cinema. See him in the ‘Ready to Come to Walthamstow’ film here.
